Cay is a genre bending artist from Chesapeake, Virginia whose fresh flavor and mulitfaceted musical approach is able to effortlessly charm any audience she is placed in front of. In addition to singing Cay is also a graphic designer, painter and photographer. Her attention to detail as well as her ability to come up with completely out of the box concepts are few of many reasons why she is on her way to completely changing the R&B game.
Cays passion for music began at a young age. “I used to record myself singing with our old video camera.”, she states, “But it wasn’t until I was in middle school that I had confirmation that other people thought I could sing too. That’s when I made the All City Chorus.” She was influenced by artists such as Drake, Nicki Minaj, Fergie, Rihanna, Erykah Badu, J Cole, Missy Elliott, T-Pain, and Lil Wayne. After leaving middle school Cay didn’t begin singing again until college.
In October of 2019 Cay released her EP “AREUOCAY” which she considers one of her biggest accomplishments. Cay is not only a singer but she has many other creative endeavors such as photography and graphic design so for her, putting together a project where she was wearing most of the hats and seeing people actually enjoy it was very fulfilling.
In 2022 Cay plans on experimenting with new sounds and approaches when it comes to music. “It’s bout that time! I’m very excited to share my growth with my listeners.”, she shares. When it comes to advice for other artists Cay shares that consistency, confidence and beliving in yourself is key. “Commit if you’re gonna do it!”, she states. “There is no room for doubt when building something big like this—you gotta believe in yourself and keep doing the work! Keep working even when it feels like nothing is happening. Before you know it, you’ll be better and the right people will notice .”
