Talented, tenacious and true to himself, Killua Nights is an artist who hip hop fans should definitely keep an eye on this year. The artist was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia but has grown up in a lot of places, primarily the DMV area and North Carolina. He has been free styling since the age of 7. “My passion for music really was always there growing up. I used to watch my family rap and sing and it was infectious. I started to have faith in it though throughout high school, though” The rising emcee states that he is primarily influenced by Wayne and X in his rapping style but aspires to be like Jay-Z. He also draws inspiration from “my life, anime, porn, and my sex/love life”.
Some of the biggest qualities that separates Nights from other artist is despite the environmental and emotionally restrictive background a lot of us share, hes not afraid to truly feel and wearing those feelings on his sleeve. “If I feel broken your gonna hear that in the music. That also leads me to saying some pretty embarrassing lines that everyone ends up loving like “she cheated before and did it again” or “so high i think I’m laced”. That raw emotion in my music is what I think draws people to my music.”, the artist shares. Nights also has made it very apparent that he cares about his supporters and fans. “Yeah I’m trying to be the biggest artist in the world but every life story that I get to share counts to me, I fell in love with the process the long show nights, hours in the studio, pictures with fans it’s all a dream come true for real.”
When it comes to challenges, this artist has overcome more than a few. “As a creative”, he states, “the hardest thing for me is that you’re a visionary and that is one of the loneliest feelings. Nobody is going to see it how you see it – till you start making them see it.” As far as accomplishments, the artist has received label offers and plenty of event offers (he has done plenty of performances in the DMV area as well as other areas) however he says his biggest accomplishment is the feedback he receives from supporters. “I get messages from people talking to me about how my music helping them through their depression or panic attacks.”
When asked about the underground scene in his area, Nights believes that the 757 area is really the hub for some of the best music. “It ain’t nothing you won’t find here.”, he shares, “It’s a lot of us who’re like just right there you know, just about to blow up. We’re starting to see way more unifying opportunities though, from Push and his new label to more venue bookings and open mics for a lot of the newer cats on the scene.” He also adds that there are a of great artist but, “I’m definitely top 2 and I’m not 2”.
The artist shared with us that he has a couple of projects in the works. He has a few music videos and a body of work with a proper rollout planned. “Something like I nor anyone else has done before. I want to give you the title but I’m not sure I’m ready to put it out yet but for sure Black Hearts Club is getting the info first.” He also shares that he is currently working on a website for his supporters to visit as well.
Killua Nights has the tenacity and the talent to really succeed in the musical field. His advice to other artists? “The advice I can give to other rappers just starting is have the work ethic to match the confidence and super ego. Digitally this shit looks like a walk in the park but it’s a lot that goes into being a artist with longevity. No one gives a fuck about your art and no one is obligated to support you. You have to give the people something. The biggest thing I can say though is to just get out there and do.”
