Lex Lucent hit the ground running last year with her breakout single “Stop Callin My Phone” and shes showing no signs of slowing down in 2020. This week we got a chance to learn a little more about her journey as an artist.
Q: Where are you from
A: My Names Alexus G. Aka Lex Lucent. I’m from Brooklyn NY but I was raised in Virginia Beach VA
Q: When and How did you discover that you had a passion for music?
A: I’ve been writing songs and raps since I was 12. I didn’t discover that it was my passion until I was like 19. I remember getting in trouble as a kid because my mom found my rap books and was mad that I had cuss words in it.
Q: Who do you consider to be your biggest influences?
A: My biggest influences are definitely Jay Z and Lil Wayne.
Q: What has been the hardest thing for you to overcome as a creative?
A: The Hardest thing about being a creative is trying not to overthink. Also me having a lack of confidence when confidence plays a major part in being an artist.
Q: What do you think is your biggest accomplishment thus far?
A: I think my biggest accomplishment is coming out as artist this year. I know I’m just getting started but to finally be able to express myself and have people actually fuck with me is an accomplishment in my book.
Q: What upcoming projects do you have in store for this year?
A: I don’t have much in store in 2019 because I am still doing some self-discovery but in 2020 I plan on shooting my first video ,Releasing more Releasing more music , and even might drop a project.
Q: How do you feel about the music scene in your area?
A: I feel like the 757 music scene is cool but I also feel a lot of people from here only support you from a distance because they don’t want you to outshine or be better than them.
Q: What qualities about yourself do you feel separates you from other artists?
A: What separates me from others is my rap flows, my bars, my style, and also me being a female plays a huge part.
Q: What was your biggest failure as an artist and how did you overcome it?
A: My biggest failure would be not putting as much content out as I wanted to this year because of financial problems.
Q: What advice do you have to upcoming artists who want to make a name for themselves?
A: The advice I’d give to others is be the best you, that you can be and don’t let anyone tell you can’t accomplish shit or pursue your dreams.
